People across the UK do an array of different things to save energy and cut their bills. This includes investing in insulation and efficient new modern boilers. While many of the things can have positive results, there are several energy-saving myths. Some of them may result in you consuming more power. We would like to discuss some central heating energy saving myths here..
Electric heaters are cheaper than radiators
The myth comes from the fact that people believe they will be wasting energy by heating other parts of their home by turning on the boiler. This may be true. However, you can overcome it by turning down the radiator valves in rooms you don’t need to heat. You can also use a modern thermostat to set the exact temperature you want so you only use gas to reach it.
Constant use is better than on/off
Another major myth is that leaving the central heating on a low setting is better than turning it on and off when you need it. The belief is that it takes more energy to turn the boiler on and off than it wastes having it on all the time. Again, this is not true.
When your heating is on, it is using energy. On the other hand, when it is off, it uses none at all. Even a low amount will eventually add up to a big bill after a few hours. As a result, it is better to use the turn on/turn off method.
Turn the TRV to max
It is important to keep in mind that turning the radiator valve up won’t make the room get warmer faster. If you turn it up, you’ll still have to wait for the temperature to rise. Rather than risk wasting energy by turning it to the max, you should adjust it in smaller increments and check on it. Remember to turn the TRV back down later though.
Warm works with experienced engineers
Warm works with engineers from across the UK who have a lot of experience with central heating and boilers. They can offer advice about central heating energy saving. A wide array of services can help too, including choosing a new installation or power flushing the radiators to get rid of sludge.
